Target For Terror by Laura Scott

Target For Terror Book 1 of Security Specialists, Inc. by Laura Scott

I started this book on my lunch break—a big mistake. It was hard to put this page-turner down and go back to work. Laura Scott has weaved a suspenseful novel of international intrigue, dealing with everything from crooked FBI agents to the Russian mafia.

The deputy prime minister of Russia is shot while giving a peace speech in Washington, D.C. He is rushed to surgery in the nearest hospital. Everything goes well, and he is expected to make a full recovery. When in his hospital room with critical care nurse Natalia Sokolava, he whispers to her that an FBI agent shot him. Then, he recognizes a pendant Natalia is wearing. It obviously has some meaning to him, but all Natalia knows is that it was given to her by her Russian birth mother before she was given up for adoption. That night, the deputy minister unexpectedly dies.

From that moment on, Natalia, an American citizen, is hunted by mysterious, professional and determined hitmen. Suddenly, relatives start turning up murdered or charged with murder. She has no one to turn to, no one to help her. Who is she to trust? The FBI? What if the prime minister was right and they were responsible for his death? Could they be the ones after her?

She is rescued by Sloan Dreyer, who is part owner of Security Specialists, Inc. and was helping to protect the prime minister. Can Natalia trust him? Will he betray her? Will he be able to protect her, as he didn’t do a good job of protecting the prime minister? Questions and doubts surround her as the relentless killers close in. One wrong move and she is dead.

Questions keep coming. Why was the prime minister shot? Was the Russian mafia involved? What does her pendant have to do with it? Who was her birth mother? And why is it so important to someone to have her dead?

This is a great book. You will not want to put it down until you see the big picture in the surprising conclusion. It is an excellent start to this series.
