The Truth In True Crime: What Investigating Death Teaches Us About The Meaning Of Life is written by a retired police detective. Mr. Wallace worked in many different departments with the police, but he ended up working Cold Case homicide crimes. In the Cold Case division, Detective Wallace was successful in bringing many murderers who thought they had gotten away with their crimes to justice. Mr. Wallace began his career as a police officer and an atheist, but after turning his skills in investigating to examine the evidence of Christianity, he became convinced of its truth.
In this book, Mr. Wallace reveals 15 life principles he learned from investigating murders. Each chapter begins with a description of a crime that he investigated. The illustrations are engaging without going into explicit details. The varied cases go from gang murders to the man who planned to kill his wife in a prison interrogation room to a killer who went undetected for 32 years. Each case is interesting as Mr. Wallace shares his personal experiences and thoughts.
I found it interesting that there are only three reasons why a person commits a crime. Every motive can be linked back to money, sex or the pursuit of power.
After reviewing the crime, retired detective Wallace walks us through a life principle that the killer or victim failed to apply in their lives. Although Mr. Wallace presents his Christian perspective in each case, non-Christians will also enjoy this book and be able to apply its life lessons. While we can all learn from this well-written book, it will be especially helpful for teenagers or young adults who are facing important decisions that will impact the rest of their lives.
J. Warner Wallace has written several books examining the evidence for Christianity from his perspective as a Cold Case investigator. The Truth In True Crime is a different twist in that in this book, he is not attempting to show the evidence for Christianity but to demonstrate life wisdom, which, although found in the Bible, can be applied by anyone to protect or improve their lives. J. Warner Wallace also does podcasts and has a website, which can be found at Cold Case Christianity.
